Grant in-game currency to affected players.
Epic has confirmed that it has settled a class action lawsuit regarding the purchase of cashiers in Fortnite and Rocket League, and will provide in-game currency to affected parties.
As detailed on the attached settlement website, the lawsuit alleged that Epic “violated state consumer protection laws, prevented minors from exercising their contractual contest rights and, by negligence, misrepresented the value of their items in the game in relation to the Fortnite and Rocket League video games. “
Epic, for its part, “denies any and all allegations of wrongdoing, liability and damages alleged in the Action, and Epic Games denies that the claims in the Action would be appropriate for class treatment if the litigation were to continue on trial.”
However, Epic and the claimants reached an agreement, pending court approval, to “avoid the costs and uncertainties associated with the litigation”.
The statement adds: “This Agreement resolves all claims made in the case against Epic Games and its affiliated entities [and] it is not an admission of transgression by Epic Games and does not imply that there has been, or would be, any conclusion that Epic Games has violated any law.
As part of the agreement, Epic will automatically add 1000 V-Bucks to each Fortnite: Save the World account that was used to purchase a loot box of random Loot Llama items after July 1, 2015 and 1000 credits for each Rocket League account used to acquire a random item loot box. Loot Llamas and Crates were removed from their respective games in 2019.
Epic says the game’s automatic in-currency compensation will apply to all affected Fortnite and Rocket League accounts globally – despite the focus of the lawsuit in the U.S. – in the coming days.
In addition, the agreement provides up to $ 26.5 million in cash and other benefits for Fortnite and Rocket League players in the U.S. who believe their purchases of real money games give rise to a “consumer fraud complaint. , breach of contract, or other claim for damages “, or who wishes to obtain a partial refund” for a purchase you made as a minor with your own money and without parental authorization. “Successful applicants can receive up to $ 50 USD, 13500 V -Bucks or 13000 Rocket League Credits, and full details on submitting a claim are on the website.
