Fortnite professional Jonathan “Yung Calculator” Weber said that emails from the Fortnite account were leaked to the public. Epic responded by cleaning the air.
Leaderboards are one of the most engaging elements of any competitive game. For the best players, the leaderboards allow them to see how they compare to the competition – whether in a tournament or with a competitive rating throughout the season.
In Fortnite, leaderboards are generally used for tracking statistics and tournament rankings. In the early hours of January 22, however, Fortnite pro Yung Calculator claimed that Epic Games was leaking confidential information to the public.
In a Twitter video, the Fortnite pro claimed that the leaderboards were leaking emails to the public, allowing malicious actors to reset the passwords of popular players.
“This is kind of bad in itself, but if they have your email, they can send password resets to your account,” said Yung Calc. “It’s usually okay — on Twitter it usually doesn’t mean anything — but at Epic Games, you disconnect from the game.”
“It happened to Clix, Nick Eh 30, Nate Hill – everyone,” he continued. “Epic Games has no idea what it is doing. Their infrastructure is garbage. They need to change that – it’s a shame. “
After all this came out, several people started pushing it back. Epic Games responds to leak allegations
All of this led to an official statement from Epic Games. After investigating reports, they issued a tweet telling their followers that this is not the case.
“We are sure that the affected accounts remain secure, the player’s information (including e-mail addresses) is not being disclosed and any logout issues have been resolved.”
Yung Calc ended up deleting his tweet, saying “I am also deleting the original tweets, since I say that Fortnite Tracker caused this, when it apparently was not”.
The professionals were still supposed to be disconnected from their accounts at one point. About this, Calc said: “I am not a programmer, do not expect my knowledge to be 100% in these things. What I do know is that it was definitely not Casper, the ghost, going around disconnecting professionals. “
