Entergy and Cleco are asking their customers to save electricity on Wednesday night as the cold weather has brought demand closer, what Entergy is calling “the all-time peak.

Entergy and Cleco suggest that customers take these steps:

• Lower your home thermostat to 68 degrees.

• Open blinds, curtains and drapes to let in the warmth of the sun.

• Delay laundry, dishwashing, bathing and other non-essential uses of electricity.

• Wash clothes with cold water, cook food as low as possible and avoid opening the oven door during cooking.

Cleco, which has about 300,000 customers in Louisiana and Mississippi, said on Wednesday night that it did not “receive much notice before being forced to implement continuous power cuts”.

“(Wednesday), we have taken an unprecedented step, as directed by MISO, to force disruptions in parts of our service territory,” the company said in a statement. “This is only the third time in the company’s 85-year history that this step has been taken – once in 2008 and the other two times during this winter storm.”
