The Red Sox are about to receive their next Brock Holt in the form of Enrique Hernández, a superuser player who plays in all positions except the receiver.

A source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com that the Sox and Hernández reached a two-year, $ 14 million deal. The club did not announce the subscription.

Hernández, who won a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020, will help fill the gap that the Red Sox have in second base.

The Red Sox, who looks like they will lose Jackie Bradley Jr. in the free agency and has hung Andrew Benintendi in commercial negotiations, can also use Hernández in the outfield.

While Hernández’s defensive versatility is a clear benefit – as the Red Sox first learned from Holt in 2014-19 – he can also get it right, especially against left-handers. In 893 career games against left-handers, Hernández has an OPS of 0.820.

Hernández reached his career record with 21 homers for the Dodgers in 18 and returned with another 17 in 19.

In 690 career games – all but 42 of them with the Dodgers – Hernández has a cut line of .240 / .313 / .425 with 71 homers and 227 RBIs.

Defensively, Hernández divided his career starts as follows: 11 on first base, 132 on second base, 56 on interbase, 14 on third base, 60 on the left, 128 in the center and 35 on the right.

Although the Red Sox made no spectacular moves this winter, baseball chief Chaim Bloom added depth to his group of position players with Hunter Renfroe and Hernández, as well as the pitching team with the powerful Matt Andriese and the leftist Martín Pérez
