Enjoy the natural glory of a deer knocking on a garage door

With the arrival of spring, the world begins to wake up once again. The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and the deer are hurling themselves against the sidewalks to bang their heads against the garage doors.

This last and wonderful demonstration of the general feeling of optimism and joy of the season was captured on video through the YouTube channel ssnapier through images so impressive that we can almost hear David Attenborough’s narration as it plays. For a few seconds, we only see a driveway and some movement on the sun-faded stretch of road at the edge of the camera frame. Then a deer comes barrelappearing on an apparent mission to throw yourself against the garage door as hard as possible. The natural majesty of the herd animal is in full force when it bangs against the door with a distorted crash just before a few more deer follow it, skidding on the sidewalk, falling on top of each other and going back to who knows where, their complete goal .

There is silence for a moment before a man’s voice is heard from inside the house shouting for a dog to calm down and then exclaiming, in a perfect comic rhythm: “What the fuck is this?

Clearly, he is overcome with the beauty of what he was lucky enough to witness: a ballet choreographed by nature and performed with mysterious grace by the beautiful children of planet Earth.

Some people in the video comments suggest that the deer couldn’t see where it was going because the sun was too strong and the garage door was painted a light color. This seems very possible, but we also know that it is just as important to consider the unpredictable art of the natural world in its own terms as it is to try to explain it on scientific grounds. How heavy is the description of a rainbow next to seeing one with your own eyes? Does knowing the evolutionary reasons for a cardinal’s bright red feathers help the bird look more impressive? No. And the same goes for this other remarkable demonstration of an animal’s moving and spectacular impulse to hit a stationary object at full speed.
