End of ‘The Masked Dancer’: Winner, cotton candy, sloth and unmasked tulip

Olympic gold medalist gymnast Gabby Douglas is the first winner of “The Masked Dancer”, having won the show’s diamond mask trophy after being revealed as Cotton Candy.

Douglas was victorious despite facing two trained dancers in the end. The runner-up, Preguiça, turned out to be Maksim Chmerkovskiy of “Dancing with the Stars”. And in third place was Tulip, who turned out to be Mackenzie Ziegler (“Dance Moms”).

Douglas was unmasked after dancing Kesha’s “This Is Me”. The speakers were divided between whether Cotton Candy was a gymnast or an ice skater. Paula Abdul discovered it was Gabby Douglas, while Ashley Tisdale named her teammate Simone Biles. Brian Austin Green thought it was Tara Lapinski, Ken Jeong called Michelle Kwan.

One of Douglas’ notable moments on the show came before his first dance, when (dressed in Cotton Candy) she was suspended high in an acrobatic ring, but then fell to the ground. “The Masked Dancer” spent a lot of time playing that clip and noticing how Cotton Candy quickly recovered and performed.

Now, Douglas can reveal that – ironically – that while it was not easy to dance in disguise, it was perhaps that elaborate, padded costume that protected her.

“The ring was spinning really fast, which I had done so many shots before that, but I really wanted to make everything very light and airy,” she told Variety. “I was kind of not paying attention and part of my left shoulder left the ring and gravity literally knocked me over. But I was so lucky for the Cotton Candy costume because it padded the fall, and I had a big old skirt, she [large] head. So I left with just a bruised chin and a bruised knee, but I was fine. I just came back and thought, ‘Alright guys, let’s do it again. “

Douglas may be an athletic superstar, but she admitted that her dance skills were only “5%. Because I’m so used to doing static poses and not really being in character, moving, doing different genres or styles of dance. So, it was very, very different. “

Speakers finally discovered that Cotton Candy was a gymnast or ice skater, which made Douglas more eager to cover his tracks. “I didn’t want to make him too much of a gymnast, so I was practicing with choreographers saying, like, ‘OK, how can I be a dancer or how can I be a hip hop dancer, to lose the judges.’ “

She was amused by some of the first inappropriate guesses, especially by Jeong: “I thought Ken was super hilarious, some of his guesses are very wild. Kylie Jenner, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez who was wow, is he doing this just to be funny or is he serious? “

Douglas gives his experience high marks. “If I could go back and do it all over again, I would,” she said. “It definitely inspired my passion for dancing more.”

Secondly, Preguiça was correctly guessed by Abdul and Green, who chose Chmerkovskiy. Jeong called Channing Tatum, while Tisdale thought it was Hugh Jackman.

For third place, Tulip, Tisdale found out it was Ziegler. Abdul went with Liza Koshy, Jeong chose Lucy Hale, Green is called Sabrina Carpenter.

“I think one of the most difficult things for me was obviously facing,” said Ziegler. “Because it was definitely a lot bigger than my real head and it was difficult because I was doing tricks, my partner was standing up and it was difficult in rehearsals, trying to navigate around my head because it was too big.”

Ziegler said that many of her fans realized from the beginning that it was her: “I am very excited for everyone to see me, because many of my supporters are already guessing. And all of my comments are, ‘Are you Tulipa?’ So I’m excited to see how everyone reacts when they understand me well. “

Abdul and Green came to the end with two correct guesses, while Jeong and Tisdale had one. At the end of the night, Abdul won the season with four correct guesses, while Green ended with three, Tisdale with two and Jeong with one.

“The Masked Dancer” includes the “Word Up” feature, in which each competitor says a clue of a word about their identity. The first “Word Up” by Douglas was “Primetime”, the second “Word Up” was “Team Player”, the third was “Prayer” and the fourth was “Cover Girl”. On Wednesday, his last “Word Up” was “Foundation”.

This season’s costumes include Zebra, Tulip, Sloth, Exotic Bird, Cotton Candy, Cricket, Disco Ball, Moth, Ice Cube and Hammerhead. Previously unmasked were Oscar de la Hoya as the zebra, Jordin Sparks as the exotic bird, Vinny Guadagnino as the Hammerhead, Brian McKnight as the cricket, Elizabeth Smart as the moth, Bill Nye the science guy as the ice cube and Ice- Not like Disco Ball.
