Neil Mahoney, known for editing a number of projects, including Comedy Central Drunk Story and Key & Peele, died. He was 43
The editor-producer died suddenly on January 7 at his home in Echo Park. Friend and comedian Jonah Ray announced Mahoney’s death on January 10 in an Instagram post.
“He was so handsome,” wrote Ray. “Oh God, I love you, Neil. I love you so much.”
Other members of the comedy scene also mourned the loss of Mahoney, transforming the hashtag #Neiledit in a collection of fond memories and moving statements. Among those who share fond memories and pay homage to Mahoney were Bojack Knight actor Paul F. Tompkins, Emily Gordon, Sara Benincasa and Janet Varney.
“I must add to the great chorus of mourning over the loss of Neil Mahoney, who edited / posted with me / made me laugh through our project last month,” wrote Varney. “Like everyone else, I’m struggling to accept that he’s suddenly gone. He was a brilliant editor and a wonderful human being. “

Born on March 7, 1977 in Cape Cod, MA, Mahoney began his career writing credits for The Offensive Show and Road to oblivion. He started producing in 2005 for Home James and CD USA in 2006.
Mahoney got his first editing job in 2007 for web series Derek and Simon: The Show. His publishing career began a few years later, when he started editing episodes of History of drunks.
In addition to editing for the Comedy Central program, Mahoney edited 8 episodes for Funny or die gifts.
Mahoney received an Emmy nomination in 2016 for his editing skills in Key and Peele, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s series of sketches. He shared the nomination with Richard LaBrie, Nicholas Monsour and Stephen Waichulis.

He leaves his mother, Claudia, and his sister, Megan.
