Elon Musk: the Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup will be able to power a trailer

Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla Cybertruck owners will be able to power a trailer with their electric pickup trucks.

In unveiling the Cybertruck, Tesla announced some impressive specifications, including a range of up to 500 miles and a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds:

With the ability to pull almost infinite mass and a towing capacity of over 14,000 pounds, Cybertruck can work in almost any extreme situation with ease.

This type of capacity will allow Tesla Cybertruck to tow a variety of different trailers and zero-emission campers in the tailpipe.

Many people were excited by the prospect of traveling with a Cybertruck and a trailer using the large battery of the electric truck to get around and live.

On Twitter today, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that Cybertruck will have the ability to feed a trailer:

This would mean that the Cybertruck could have some bi-directional charging capability over the electrical outlets at the back.

These outlets were already seen as useful for a camping situation and Tesla has already revealed a camper setup for the Cybertruck, but you would need more power for a larger situation, like a full-size camper.

Combined with an implantable solar system in the trailer, someone could have a configuration that would allow them to camp off the grid with Cybertruck.

Musk said Tesla is planning a “sick accessory for the Cybertruck” and the automaker launched this rendering of the electric pickup with its own trailer, but it did not look like a trailer.

Regardless of whether Tesla launches its own trailer for the Cybertruck, the electric pickup truck is likely to be used by some owners with third-party campers.

The Model 3 has already spurred several aftermarket companies focused on the vehicle, and Cybertruck has the potential to do the same.

We previously reported that someone was already working on a custom fifth-wheel trailer for the Tesla Cybertruck.

The Tesla Cybertruck is set to go into production at the end of 2021, although the automaker has indicated that delays in 2022 would not be too surprising.
