Elliot Page revealed that he underwent first-line surgery as part of his transgender journey.
The star of “The Umbrella Academy” said the surgery, which removes breast tissue to produce a more masculine appearance, was life changing.
“It completely transformed my life,” he told Time magazine in a cover story.
Page said that surgery does not define being trans, but it freed him from the “total hell” that was puberty and allowed him to finally recognize himself by looking in the mirror.
The “Juno” star revealed that she was recovering from surgery when she turned out to be transgender in December.
“I feel lucky to be writing this. Be here. To have come to this place in my life, ”wrote Page, 34, in his ad on social media. “I feel immense gratitude for the incredible people who supported me throughout this journey. I cannot begin to express how remarkable it is to finally love who I am enough to seek out my authentic self. “
His wife, Emma Portner, said that she was “very proud” of Page for coming out and living authentically, but they decided to separate; Page filed for divorce from Portner in January.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we made the difficult decision to divorce after our separation last summer,” the pair said in a joint statement. “We have the greatest respect for each other and remain close friends.”
The divorce took place just three years after the couple married in January 2018.
