Ellen Pompeo calls pens open letter to HFPA, “White Hollywood” – Deadline

Ellen Pompeo wrote an open letter to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and “White Hollywood” the day before the 2021 Golden Globe.

Shared in his Instagram post, Pompeo’s letter draws the attention of HFPA for its lack of diverse members, a criticism that has echoed through Hollywood since a Los Angeles Times complaint revealed that the industry body has no black journalists among its 87 members. While HFPA responded to the reaction, noting that they “will immediately work to implement a plan” to increase diversity in their party, the Grey’s Anatomy star proposed his own solution and asked for the help of “white Hollywood”.

“I would like to ask all my white colleagues in this industry, an industry that we love and that has given us an enormous privilege…. to get up, show up and solve this problem, ”she wrote in the letter. “We are going to show our black colleagues that we care and we are willing to do the job to correct the mistakes that we have created. Now is not the time to be silent. We have a real action item here, let’s do that. “

Pompeo is among several Hollywood names who question the lack of black members of the HFPA. Sterling K. Brown, Kerry Washington, Jurnee Smollett, Amy Schumer and Dakota Johnson shared a Time’s Up post calling for HFPA.
