Elgato’s new light strip can make your setup go more smoothly

Elgato, the Corsair-owned company known for its creator-focused games and streaming technology, is expanding into intelligent lighting. She introduced the Light Strip, a thin strip packed with 108 dimmable LEDs that can be assembled using an adhesive sticker, folded and trimmed to fit wherever you want. They can be controlled over Wi-Fi (only 2.4 GHz) through a free app on macOS, Windows 10, iOS or Android, or Elgato’s Stream Deck hardware, which apparently offers deeper integration. Elgato is charging $ 59.99 for two meters (about 79 inches) of lights, including the controller to which the lights connect and a power adapter.

They are similar in execution to most connected light strips, including Philips Hue, which ironically has tight integration with the Stream Deck via plug-ins. Not to be confused with the features of something like the Philips Hue Play gradient light strip that can synchronize light with what’s on the screen (only after purchasing some expensive additional hardware), Elgato’s most affordable solution is just for appearance.

If you are a streamer that appears on camera, Elgato says that the LEDs inside the Light Strip do not flash. He says that some other options look good to the naked eye, but they can create a wobble effect when you’re on camera. In terms of other specifications, these are RGBWW LEDs that support cool and warm white in addition to millions of colors. They have a maximum output of 2,000 lumens.

Elgato, aware of his target audience, is also advertising Wave Panels. These are glorified foam pieces that can be mounted (by adhesive or with a wall anchor) in your space to improve the acoustics. They are likely to be especially useful if you are recording your voice. They have a bold look and Elgato is launching them in various colors. It’s $ 100 for six panels and assemblies.
