El Paso receives another 5,000 first doses of the vaccine; provisional dates for 2nd discarded doses

Coronavirus

El PASO, Texas – El Paso public health officials said on Thursday afternoon that they had received another 5,000 Covid-19 vaccines to be administered as first doses at the city’s vaccination center near the airport.

To date, the city has said it has administered more than 86,000 doses of the vaccine against the virus to El Pasoans who registered through the online portal at epcovidvaccine.com. Consultations will continue to be scheduled from that database, officials said, encouraging people to remain on the vaccination waiting list by registering.

In a new development, health leaders indicated that the provisional consultation dates originally set for people who had already received the first dose to obtain the second injection were no longer applicable.

The city said the second doses cannot be administered until they are distributed to El Paso by the state of Texas. The authorities said that the second dose recipients will be notified by the city when those doses are available to them.

Public Health Director Angela Mora told reporters that the deadline for everyone in Phase 1 to be fully vaccinated was initially February, but has now been extended until mid-March.

The Texas Department of Health Services designates the use of all vaccine shipments sent to the city of El Paso.
