Guinness World Records presented Shaaban’s achievement on Thursday in a TikTok post.

Shaaban surpassed a record held since 2011 by three men, Italians Cesare Fumarola and Stefano Figini and Egyptian Soliman Sayed, who each jumped 2 meters.

Shaaban’s jump occurred at an Egyptian Diving and Rescue Federation event in Cairo in November.

In a report published by Guinness World Records, Shaaban explained the exercise routine that gives him his newt skills.

“Larger muscles make it difficult to run in the water, so I train to … increase flexibility, improve muscle reflexes and, of course, build stronger legs,” he said.

Shaaban is also one of the fastest underwater sprinters in the world, the report said.

“Swimming is peaceful. A wave of unexplained thoughts runs through your mind underwater, but it is certainly different and healing,” Shaaban told Guinness World Records.

“As a sprinter, I understand that even thinking burns oxygen, so I tend to focus on the present moment. Part of our training is learning to be extremely relaxed in the water.”
