Only a few years ago, truly wireless headphones were few and far between. Today, there are almost many options to choose from, and new offers are quickly lost in the sea of headphones if they don’t stand out. Edifier’s approach to making its new wireless buttons distinctly different is a transparent charging case that can only please those who are not ashamed of how dirty their ears are.
Even if you are obsessively clean, your ears will still produce wax –it’s just how your body works. The material is secreted naturally by the skin glands within the ear canals to help trap dust and debris, preventing it from reaching the eardrums and damaging them. That said, it’s still disgusting, and who among us didn’t take off their headphones and quickly put them in a charging case to hide the wax-covered ear tips? Ignorance is a bliss.
This is not an option with Edifier’s new GM5 wireless headphones. Featuring a design similar to the original Apple AirPods with an extended stem creating more space for a larger battery, they can really last eight hours of playback on a single charge, compared to just five hours for AirPods. It is not yet known how long this battery lasts when making calls or playing online games with friends and having to transmit audio in both directions.
Battery life can be extended up to 32 hours when you are away from a power source using the GM5 charging case to fill the buttons, but this convenience comes with the compensation of your buttons being on display while they are stored with security in the case. When placed in your pocket, this is not a problem, but leave them on your desk and in yourworkers will have a view of the front seat of the entire wax constructiontransferred from your ears to these buttons, and you will be the next topic of conversation at the water cooler. (This may not be a problem when many of us are still working from home, but think about the future!)
