Edgar Wright’s ‘The Sparks Brothers’ gets summer release date – Deadline

Focus Features said on Friday that it is launching Edgar Wright’s documentary The Sparks Brothers, about the influential indie electronic pop band Sparks, on June 18, 2021 in American theaters.

Focus acquired the photo, which marks Wright’s debut as a film director, after his world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. On Thursday, the photo made a stop at SXSW with an exhibition and virtual Q&A with Wright along with brothers and bandmates Ron and Russel Mael.

The Sparks Brothers details the five-decade journey of the influential, but often overlooked, group that you can say is your favorite band’s favorite band, still attracting influential crowds to your shows. The photo, born from Wright’s first encounter with Sparks as a child, watching them on a show in the UK Top of the Pops, features interviews with the Los Angeles duo, as well as fans of Flea, Beck, Jack Antonoff, Jason Schwartzman and Neil Gaiman and others.

Wright, whose next photo is the one next to Focus Last night in Soho, also produced the documentary with production partner Nira Park, through Complete Fiction Pictures, along with producers George Hencken and Laura Richardson from Complete Fiction. The film was funded by MRC Non-Fiction.
