The “Beverly Hills Cop” star has revealed that he wants to do new stand-up comedy performances as soon as the pandemic is over.
Appearing on the SiriusXM podcast “Comedy Gold Minds with Kevin Hart” on Thursday, the actor said that if it weren’t for the Covid-19 restrictions, he would have returned.
“All the time, last year, I would have worked on my acting, trying to get my shit right, and then the whole thing shut down.”
He added that “when the pandemic is over and it is safe for everyone to go out and do it, the plan is to do it.”
Murphy, who turns 60 next month, started making his name on the comedy circuit in the early 1980s with his stand-up shows inspired by Richard Pryor and often polarizing.
His 1987 film, “Raw” – which was shot at New York’s Madison Square Garden – received a wide release and remains the highest-grossing stand-up comedy film of all time, grossing more than $ 50 billion.
Murphy can be seen in “Coming 2 America”, the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 comedy classic, “Coming to America”.
The second installment, which premieres globally on Amazon Prime Video Friday, will follow the newly crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) when he returns to Queens, New York with his trusted confidant Semmi (Arsenio Hall) in search of his previously unknown son and heir to the throne.
