While the Eagles continue to look for a trading partner to send quarterback Carson Wentz out of Philadelphia, it appears that Wentz is not the only household name in the trading bloc. According ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, veteran tight end Zach Ertz is also among the names the Eagles are trying to negotiate.
Ertz, 30, has spent his entire eight-year career with the Eagles. He saw his three-year success in the Pro Bowl in 2020, when injuries limited him to 11 games and a 335-yard drop in 36 receptions with a touchdown.
While it is unclear how serious the trade negotiations around Ertz have been, it is possible that Ertz and Wentz can be bundled together into a single deal. Ertz is in the last year of his contract and has a base salary of $ 8.5 million in 2021, with a cap reached just over $ 12.4 million. Wentz is still four years old and has $ 128 million left in his contract, although the teams may withdraw from their deal after next season and absorb nearly $ 25 million in dead money.
The Eagles and the Colts have been discussing a deal for Wentz, by Mike Kaye of NJ.com, who would bring Wentz together with his former offensive coordinator at the current Colts coach, Frank Reich.
