Let’s go to Philadelphia Eagles links …
The Eagles will take a break before presenting a Carson Wentz plan – PFT
The Philadelphia Eagles, officially eliminated from the postseason, will play their final game tonight against Washington. Immediately after the game, planning for 2021 begins. When it comes to the position of defender, the Eagles take a break before starting a full assessment. Generally speaking, the Eagles believe that reserve holder Carson Wentz can be repaired and that he can resume his successful career. The first question is whether Wentz will be reinstated as a starter for 2021 or whether Wentz and Jalen Hurts from the 2020 runoff will compete for the job. In theory, the Eagles could also decide to make the Hurts the starter, with no competition between him and Wentz. That result seems the least likely at this point, mainly because the Eagles continue to believe Wentz.
To negotiate or not: Joe Banner says that eagles need to decide quickly what to do with Carson Wentz – Inquirer
Domo: Let’s assume that Doug is coming back. Who do you think he wants to move on as his quarterback – Wentz or Hurts? […] JB: I think it is very difficult to know that. Not because of knowledge (first hand) other than meeting people, it is impossible for Doug and Carson to have gone through this season together and not to have developed any tension between them. There was a lot of stress, a lot of disappointment. Both are motivated and highly competitive people. Now, you can get away from the scene and everything can evaporate. Or there may be some persistent damage to that. There is no way to know that. What I do know is that Doug is calling very different plays with Jalen in the quarterback than he did with Carson. It makes me think that Doug may be a little excited about some of the things he thinks he can do with someone who is as mobile as Jalen and doesn’t have a story where you have to worry about him getting hurt. And it looks like he has a structure where he can actually have more contact and batting than most defenders probably. So I can’t tell you which one he prefers. But it looks like he is excited and even a little rejuvenated in terms of being creative and using zone readings and RPOs and some of the things he stepped back with Carson.
Report: Doug Pederson to return as Eagles head coach in 2021 – BGN
Does this development seem like bad news for Carson Wentz? The Eagles can’t go back with Pederson AND Wentz … can they?
The Kist & Solak Show # 219: JIM SCHWARTZ EMERGENCY POD! – BGN Radio
Michael Kist and Benjamin Solak react to the news of Jim Schwartz by letting his contract expire after the 2020 season, discuss his legacy and debate which candidates the eagles should choose to replace him! Developed by SB Nation and Bleeding Green Nation.
Mailbag: Should the Eagles treat Week 17 as a pre-season game? – PhillyVoice
Ross question: Is there any chance that the Eagles will try to change Dillard? Or is his value so low due to injuries and bad looks that it is better to bring him back to camp? … In fact, it is a little more expensive to exchange it than just to keep it, so you would have to get something worthwhile in return for it. I don’t think there would be much of a market for him, as, as you said, he stank like a rookie and missed his entire second season. If anyone was interested (again, unlikely), I’m sure the Eagles would listen.
Schwartz Gone, Doug Back? – Iggles Blitz
It would be crazy if the Eagles brought back Pederson and Howie Roseman, while losing Jim Schwartz. The defense was the least of my worries. I was more focused on fixing QB / offense and updating the team’s overall talent level. Ugh. Ian Rapoport had a tweet mentioning “significant changes in the team”. He gave no details. I don’t know if this is speculation or something he heard behind the scenes. The Eagles have been adjusting the coaching staff since they won the Super Bowl. They can certainly make improvements, but the key is still to update the talent level of this team. No matter who is calling the shots / teaching the players, they need more talent to work. Return to DC. It will be interesting to see what the eagles will do there. Matt Burke was the DL coach this year and is a disciple of Schwartz. It could make sense, since the squad is built for a 4-3 schedule and 1 break. He has experience in DC. DBs coach Marquad Manuel is also experienced in DC and can be a candidate. Of course, Eagles may want to meet someone with a different set of ideas.
DC Eagles Jim Schwartz won’t be back: Who can replace him? What is your legacy? – Atlético
I think in general he did a very good job. From 2016 to 2020, the Eagles’ defense ranked eighth in expected points added by snap, according to the TruMedia model. It was never less than 17 in Football Outsiders’ DVOA metric. It’s easy to forget now, but the defense (fifth) actually got higher than the attack (seventh) on the DVOA during the 2017 Super Bowl season. Schwartz was often asked to do more with less. The eagles have had 11 choices in the top 100 over the past five seasons, and only three of them have been used in defense. According to Over The Cap, they ranked 30th in defensive spending in 2020. Schwartz’s philosophy was basically: Give me some pass brokers and I’ll find out the rest. He was frustrating and stubborn at times, but on the whole he did a very good job. Building an effective attack and mediocre defense is a recipe for success in today’s NFL. The Eagles have made eight choices in the top 100 in attack in the past five years and have the third most expensive attack in the league. They are in 28th place in the offensive DVOA. This is what is responsible for the failures of the 2020 season, not Schwartz.
Roob’s 10 reasons why Lurie is keeping Pederson – NBCSP
8. Doug and Howie: This is an underestimated, but important part of this whole dynamic. Whoever the head coach here is has to have a solid working relationship with Howie Roseman, and Doug does. I will never forget Reid’s words after he was fired after the 2012 season: “Everyone has to be pulling in the same direction”. The relationship between the owner, the general manager and the trainer – the three most powerful people in any organization – is complicated, and if all three respect and trust each other, listen to each other and are pulling in the same direction as you , at least you have a chance, and I think Lurie believes that to be the case.
Playoffs at stake for Washington at the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 – ESPN
Bold prediction: regardless of the starting quarterback, it will be the defense and race game that will flourish for Washington. Running back Antonio Gibson will have 75 yards and a touchdown, and defensive side Chase Young will register two sacks. But perhaps this is the boldest prediction: Washington will score in the first possession for the first time of the year.
Watching … Travis Fulgham, Michael Jacquet, Brett Toth at the end – PE.com
That four-game stretch when Travis Fulgham had 27 receptions for 378 yards and three touchdowns – leading the NFL to receive in that period of time – seems like an eternity. Fulgham has had eight catches in six games since then. What happened? “I just need to keep going, get better every day, keep working on my job, and whenever the team calls my number, I need to answer. I just need to make the move for them, ”said Fulgham earlier in the week when that question was asked. “Regarding the drop-off, there is only one ball left, so I’m not worried about that, but when my turn comes, I’ll be ready. Of course it is disappointing. You want to do everything you can to help your team and I would like to be able to do that. ”Fulgham really did not have an answer as to why his playing time and targets decreased significantly. “Some guys got healthy and that’s how it goes. If they need me out there, I’ll be there. It’s more or less how business goes, ”he said. Fulgham defended his practice habits and his performance in the game, keeping his focus on what he can control.
2 D / STs to start and 2 D / STs to disappear in Week 17 fantasy football – DraftKings Nation
D / ST sits – Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Football Team. In the past two weeks, we’ve seen the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense destroyed by DeAndre Hopkins, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb. This weekend, things can’t get any easier, as they face a Washington football team trying to beat NFC East. The Eagles’ defense could be without some starters like Fletcher Cox, Jalen Mills and Derek Barnett. If these players don’t play, we can see Washington’s attack on the pitch with Alex Smith in the center.
Injury update: Washington plans to start Alex Smith vs. Eagles – Hogs Haven
Alex Smith is feeling well and the plan is to start on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Washington Football Team will still need to check on his health tomorrow morning, but everything is pointing in the right direction for Smith to return to the field after losing the last 2 ½ games with a calf injury. Smith looked like he could come back last week, but after fully practicing on Friday, the decision was made to shut him down the next day. Sunday’s game is the biggest of the year and will determine whether the WFT will win the division or start off-season. Washington controls its own destiny, and no matter what happens in the Cowboys vs. Giants game tomorrow, as long as they defeat the Eagles.
Report: Kellen Moore will remain as offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 – Blogging the boys
It’s no secret that Kellen Moore is in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys and with an available job that apparently makes a lot of sense (in a world where those kinds of things rarely align like that) it makes a lot of sense that Moore could leave the Cowboys and go to Boise State. Moore has been instrumental in the success and offensive efficiency of the Cowboys since he took over as the offensive coordinator, and we haven’t been able to see him in his fully planned form for an entire season this year as Dak Prescott crashed in Week 5. Fortunately, it looks like there will be more opportunities in the future. On the eve of Week 17, it was reported by ESPN that Kellen Moore was not only remaining as the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, but that he was ignoring the opportunity to be the head coach of Boise State to do this. The Cowboys are apparently signing with him an extension of the world leader.
Dave Gettleman’s fate as GM of the Giants in the air at the end of the season – Big Blue View
I can see the “he must go” argument. There were missed opportunities and free agent errors in Gettleman’s first two seasons. There were many losses. Gettleman will turn 70 in February and it may be time for a new approach. I can see the “he must stay” argument. As far as we can tell, Gettleman and Joe Judge work well together and share a vision of how the Giants should be built going forward. Last year’s free agency changes were excellent. Despite the struggles in the attack this season, the organization appears to believe Gettleman’s decision to summon Daniel Jones in 2019. If Gettleman and Judge are on the same page, and the property believes in the direction Judge has set, why move on? Personally, I’m fine with any decision the Giants make.
