Eagles News: PFF says Carson Wentz trade isn’t worth the risk

Let’s go to Philadelphia Eagles links …

Monson: QB Carson Wentz not worth betting – PFF
This is the big problem of taking on the reconstruction project that is Carson Wentz. His game in terms of stable metrics and data points has been very consistent throughout his career, although he dropped in 2020. His game in 2017 was not just a big departure from the rest of his game in the NFL; it was a season built from capturing lightning in a bottle for that season. Wentz actually picked up a series of hot cards at the poker table in 2017, and although he took advantage of that and played the hands he received well, you can’t be confident that this will happen in the future. Anyone who wants to acquire Wentz needs to understand that 2017 is not a realistic ceiling for him, and the player you are buying will likely look a lot more like what we saw during the 2016, 2018 and 2019 seasons – good, but not great. He scored about 75.0 in those seasons, which would have stayed in the bottom half of the league in 2020, a record year for offensive production. To continue the poker analogy, I wouldn’t have put all my chips in the middle of the table if Wentz were my hand. The reward just doesn’t exist.

NFL Draft Mailbag: Accept a quarterback early or continue with Jalen Hurts? – BGN
From my point of view, Jalen Hurts has a future as an NFL quarterback. While his debut season had its ups and downs, there was a lot to be encouraged. The big sale for me, and probably for the Eagles, is Jalen Hurts’ intangibles. He is clearly loved by the team and it is obvious in the way the attack responded to him when he was starting. Hurts never seemed intimidated by obstacles as a starter: be it his mistakes, the mistakes of his teammates or the pressure of the defense. This is great for a young player like Hurts. The strength of Hurts’ arm is widely seen as a limit on his roof in the NFL. While these concerns are valid, there are also many ways for Hurts to overcome a common NFL arm. Hurts is a smart passer who has had limited mistakes since college. Becoming very efficient, fast and accurate with the ball is a clear path for Hurts to win in the NFL as a defender. Couple that with your existing athletics and cold demeanor and you become quite a player.

Why is it taking so long for the Eagles to switch Carson Wentz? – Inquirer
In short, league sources doubt that Roseman was offered a first-round choice for Wentz, this year or in the future. The acquisition of a Wentz deal is the only mitigation that Roseman can get from the disaster of having to deal with a healthy 28-year-old QB that he handpicked as the future of the franchise, played for three years and was rewarded with a $ 128 million extension contract. If Roseman comes out with an intermediate choice this year and a second parole or something in the future, he seriously spoiled his legacy and probably deepened the hole that the 4-11-1 Eagles have to get out of, in terms of talent acquisition.

Why the Eagles shouldn’t wait too long to negotiate Carson Wentz – NBCSP
It’s clear that Wentz would prefer to leave the Eagles – several league sources confirmed this to NBC Sports Philadelphia this week – and when the franchise’s quarterback wants to leave, you’ll practically have to comply with that request. If this was not a solvable situation before, a week of rumors and public trade reports will not. The Eagles need to take out the Band-Aid and move on as an organization. In addition to the $ 10 million bonus due to Wentz on the third day of the new league year (March 19), there are many other reasons to switch Wentz before the Eagles arrive at the training ground this summer.

What if the Bears don’t negotiate with Wentz? – Windy City Gridiron
It is now a full week since the rumors of switching involving the Chicago Bears making a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for quarterback Carson Wentz appeared, and while everything has been quiet on the Chicago side, there has been a lot coming from the East Coast. Some Philadelphia media personalities shared rumors about trade with NFL “sources”, but the general consensus is that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is just trying to bluff some additional interest in Wentz. The Bears and Colts are probably still in the race, but neither team has an offer that the Eagles are willing to accept. There have already been rumors that the Colts were interested in other defenders, most notably Sam Darnold and Matt Ryan, although Ryan’s rumor was quickly taken down, but that is where Colts GM Chris Ballard is not content to wait for Wentz. Likewise, Bears’ GM, Ryan Pace, must sit back and wait for Roseman to leave, or he must turn to other defenders who are supposed to be in the commercial block.

QB Index: Ranking of the 59 starting defenders of the 2020 NFL season – NFL.com
23) Jalen Hurts – Bhanpuri: Jalen Hurts provided a spark for a lifeless attack by the Eagles when he replaced Carson Wentz in Week 14, but the rookie’s four games were far from perfect. Still, combine your copious potential with a 2021 salary that is 3.4 percent higher than Wentz’s, and it’s no surprise that Nick Sirianni’s fledgling regime chooses to stay with the second-year passer as the team’s title holder in the next season. […] 35) Carson Wentz – Blair: Wentz is just a member of the (disturbingly large) crowd of young defenders swinging on the edge of the abyss, but his fall may be one of the most distressing, given the times when the former MVP candidate plummeted. Without digging into the complicated business of blaming, Wentz’s setback in 2020 should haunt not only the Eagles, but any NFL decision-maker charged with protecting the development of a talented flier.

Decisions, decisions … Decisions – Washington Football Team 2021 Free Agents – Hogs Haven
Ronald Darby – Darby, only 27, played very well in the defense of Del Rio last year. The biggest obstacle he overcame was staying healthy throughout the season. As we have seen, and we have seen in the past, when he manages to stay healthy, he is a player! I would offer him a three-year business worth $ 8-10 million a year.

Dallas Cowboys must be absolutely interested in JJ Watt – Blogging The Boys
The off-season of the NFL doesn’t even have a whole week and things have already started well. Quarterbacks will be on the move like never before in the coming months (maybe even before that), but many other players will need uniform edits made for them when they change teams too. Although a breakup was expected to occur, Friday morning made it official that starfighter JJ Watt will be elsewhere in 2021, when the Houston Texans released him. Watt is the greatest player in Texas history and has done extraordinary goodwill for the city of Houston throughout his decade at the club. Coming to football everything, Watt is now a free agent. Yes, the Cowboys should be interested.

Mel Kiper: Daniel Jones is better than any QB in the 2021 draft, except Trevor Lawrence – Big Blue View
“I think Daniel Jones is a better defender in this draft than everyone, except Trevor Lawrence,” said Kiper. “Zach Wilson would be the closest to him and Justin Fields. But I would say that Daniel Jones in this draft would be the second quarterback behind Trevor Lawrence. Leaving Duke, he would have been the second highest rated quarterback. ” [BLG Note: Lol.]
