Eagles News: NFL insider doesn’t think Carson Wentz trade will return first round choice

Let’s go to Philadelphia Eagles links …

Bowles Super Bowl game plan, Watt Match and Texans Mess, Trevor Lawrence as Advertised – MMQB
1) I think the Eagles will have to change Carson Wentz soon. The market is not strong for Wentz for a number of reasons. The contract (a negotiating team for him has been locked for two years at $ 47.4 million) is a problem. The tape, which was awful last year, is another. A third less talked about problem is Wentz’s growing reputation for not responding well to heavy coaching. All this is because the starting price requested by the Eagles – the return the Lions got for Matthew Stafford – was enough to prevent some teams from leaving the race. Ultimately, I think GM Howie Roseman’s goal, when asking for so much, was to leave with a 1 and more. At this point, I don’t think he can get a first round for Wentz, without some strings (maybe a pay slip or picks coming back) attached. Which, if you look at what we were saying when Wentz was kicked out in December, is not that surprising. This is just who Wentz is as a defender now. And the proof is that the teams that know him best, the Bears (John DeFilippo) and Colts (Frank Reich, Press Taylor, Mike Groh) did not make an offer strong enough to make Philly jump. My guess is that he landed in Chicago, and that would be good for him. DeFilippo played the bad cop in Philadelphia for Wentz during the first two years of the defender in the league, and going there would force Wentz to face the persistent question of the tough head-on coach. (Indy would be good for him too, for a number of obvious reasons.)

Eagles want more for Carson Wentz than a choice in the middle of the first round, and that is creating a stall.

Report: Eagles spoke to Seahawks and Colts about Zach Ertz trade – BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles spoke with the Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks about a Zach Ertz exchange, according to a report by Ed Kracz of Eagle Maven. This report is in line with what we have heard about Ertz in this off-season. In January, Tony Pauline said it was “unequivocally said that […] Ertz will not play for the Philadelphia Eagles next year. ”Not long after that, Stampede Blue reported that Ertz was attracting interest from the Colts. Ertz, who turns 31 this season and wants a contract extension, does not fit the schedule for an Eagles team looking to get younger. Birds can negotiate or cut with him to free up $ 4.7 million in relief from the much-needed space limit this off-season. The important thing to note, however, is that Ertz cannot be traded to help the Eagles reach below the limit (they currently have $ 49 million ABOVE) before the start of the new league year on March 17. If they want to trade it, they will have to find other ways to open up enough space to keep it going beyond the free agency’s official start. Otherwise, the Eagles would have to release Ertz.

Report: Colts Had Commercial Conversations With Eagles About TE Zach Ertz – Stampede Blue
Now, the former professional of the first 2018 NFL team, Ertz, is not currently Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, nor is he the same star as ever, but theoretically he could provide the Colts with a more dynamic player in position – if he can stay totally healthy. If negotiating for Ertz, the Colts can choose to rework their contract, giving them an additional year on their current contract – while reducing their maximum limit to 2021. The franchise could also ‘wait and see’ if the Eagles finally released it from any way – without having to give up any recruitment compensation and sign it purely on Indy’s terms. What is clear is that the Colts have an interest in Ertz in this off-season, but it is just a matter of which Indianapolis media could choose to eventually acquire it.

Mailbag: If the Eagles get a choice in the first round for Carson Wentz, will it be better in 2021 or 2022? – PhillyVoice
A look at the last five times that eagles made a choice somewhere in the 1920s: 2020: Jalen Reagor, 21st overall … 2019: Andre Dillard, 22nd overall … 2015: Nelson Agholor, 20th overall. .. 2014: Marcus Smith, 26th overall … 2011: Danny Watkins, 23rd overall. In short, gross. But besides that, personally, I don’t think there is a drastic difference in the quality of the prospect that you will find in choice # 20 versus the one you will find in, saaayyy, choice # 30. However, there is actually a big difference who you can get to in choice # 20 and who’s up there in choice # 10. The Eagles have a reconstruction of several years ahead of them and, as such, it shouldn’t matter if they have an extra choice of the first round in 2021 or 2022 I prefer to roll the dice and expect a higher choice in 2022 than the ones the Bears and Colts currently have in the early 1920s in 2021. And seeing as whoever you negotiate, be playing with the worst NFL fullback there is a year (statistically), I would like my chances that the choice of 2022 would be better than 20 or 21.

No quick fix – Iggles Blitz
The 2021 Eagles is not a player away. Unless Reggie White, Brian Dawkins, Seth Joyner and Donovan McNabb somehow end up in the cast and they are all magically 25 years old, this team will be watching the Super Bowl on TV. There is no quick fix for this team. This is both good and bad news. The bad news, this team has no talent. The good news is that they have a lot of flexibility when it comes to recruiting and off-season play. Eagles are not attached to a particular position. It will take several years of writing to bring in young talent to revitalize the squad. I’ve been studying recruitment prospects and trying to figure out what the Eagles should be doing. One of the real keys is that the scouting team talks to the new coaching staff and everyone stays on the same page. Let’s talk about cornerbacks for a second. Eagles can have a very different set of choices in the second round.

How to think about Carson Wentz’s commercial saga (if absolutely necessary) – Pro Football Network
The Eagles have until the start of the league year to negotiate Wentz. Without an overwhelming offer at the table, they can wait a week or two for the official 2021 numbers to be finalized, restricted offers from free agents across the league to be made, rumors about disgruntled Wilson-level defenders abate, and other household chores to do so. will make everyone’s boundary situations clearer. At the same time, a $ 10 million bonus comes into play if Wentz is in the Eagles squad a few days after the start of the league year. Roseman and the Eagles cannot afford to waste time hoping that Washington will suddenly enter the bidding, only to find that the Colts have arrested Marcus Mariota for a third round choice, the Bears have opted for Darnold and the Wentz market suddenly dried up.

2021 Eagles Offseason Preview – NBC Sports Edge
Carson Wentz (QB2 / 3) – It can be a painful process, but Wentz is likely to move before the NFL Draft. Whether in Indianapolis, Chicago or elsewhere, Wentz’s situation in 2021 will likely be similar to his less than ideal situation in 2020, where he was QB21 per game while playing for dusty veterans and struggling youngsters. Assuming that Wentz is traded, it is likely that he will get a full season as a starter, solely based on his contract and the capital that will be needed to trade for him (in the first round or two in the second round). Betting on recovery is a big risk, but stranger things have already happened. He is ranked 29th out of 35 qualified quarterbacks since 2018 (when he returned from his back injury) in both EPAs for dropback and higher than expected completion percentage.

Doug Pederson should not have been fired by the Eagles, a fact lost in madness – Inquirer
None of the reasons surrounding Pederson’s departure deserved dismissal. NFL sources indicated that Lurie refused Pederson’s demands. After five seasons of Lurie’s meddling, Pederson finally insisted on hiring his own coaching staff. After five seasons of Roseman’s bad personal decisions, Pederson wanted a louder voice in building the list. After five seasons of polishing Wentz – an FCS (Division I-AA) project that Pederson turned into a competent and often sparkling NFL quarterback – Lurie believed that Pederson couldn’t fix it now, or that Pederson was not interested in fixing it. it now, or that Wentz would refuse to be repaired by Pederson, now and forever. None of that matters. All of these reasons combined are not enough reason to fire Pederson. He was a good coach, who won a lot of games when he had decent players. This is the bar.

Cowboys QB Ben DiNucci was ranked the worst defender of all 59 who started a game in 2020 – Blogging the boys
You’ll notice that Dak Prescott is still ahead of many NFL holders at number 16 and Andy Dalton ended up in front of many guys who were supposed to start with their teams throughout the season (shout out to Carson Wentz). Given the way the seasons went for them, none of those ratings is shocking. It is also not surprising that Ben DiNucci was the worst defender to start a game throughout the 2020 season. The assessment notes that it was never fair to expect much from him so early in his career that clearly needed to be developed. Garrett Gilbert (top 51, baby!) He looked much better than he did a week after DiNucci started, having barely spent time attacking the Cowboys. Sometimes the difference between veterans and newbies (specifically of the seventh round variety) is so simple.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes Washington’s football team can get Allen Robinson – Hogs Haven
Recently, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tried to find out where some potential free big name agents could land. Fowler placed the Bears receiver, Allen Robinson, landing in DC. If that became true, he and Terry McLaurin could complement each other perfectly in Scott Turner’s attack. Robinson is known throughout his career as an “air dancer”. He consistently wins one-on-one with exceptional jumping skills, body control and great hands. His presence would force an exaggerated help to decide between doubling it or McLaurin – whoever is not doubling can crush an opposing defense.
