Eagles-Cowboys Final Injury Report: Fletcher Cox among three questionable, three discarded

The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report on Friday, ahead of the Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Three players were eliminated: Josh Sweat, Kevon Seymour and Richard Rodgers.

We already knew that Sweat would lose this week’s game. The Eagles may choose to put him in reserve due to how Doug Pederson said he will “waste some time”. Previous players with this designation have lost several games. Disappointing to see Sweat hurt when he was showing a promise. His injury leaves the Eagles with Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, Vinny Curry and Genard Avery as their four defensive ends.

Seymour was playing a significant role due to the Eagles’ secondary injuries. His absence leaves the Eagles with Darius Slay (returning this week), Michael Jacquet and Nickell Robey-Coleman as the only cornerbacks in the 53-man squad. The Eagles are listing veteran Safety Blake Countess as a corner in the training squad; maybe they’re looking to elevate you to this week’s game. Slay and Jacquet appear to play outside with the NRC working on the slot machine.

Rodgers may be an IR candidate, considering how he was carried off the field during last week’s game. The Eagles used training squad protection at Caleb Wilson earlier this week, so maybe they’ll put him in the squad to be the third tight end, behind Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz.

Three players were judged QUESTIONABLE: Fletcher Cox, Cameron Johnston and Duke Riley.

The Eagles previously listed Cox as “neck, rest”. Cox rarely loses games, so I think he might be able to play on Sunday … but we’ll see.

Johnston is still in concussion protocol. He cannot play until he is released independently. It is not ideal if the Eagles have no bettor for this game.

Riley was limited in practice this week. If he can’t play, TJ Edwards thinks about seeing more playing time alongside Alex Singleton. Shaun Bradley and Joe Bachie are the only other linebackers on the 53 player list. The Eagles can also try to get Rashad Smith off the training team, if necessary.

The Eagles activated DeSean Jackson’s training window earlier this week so he can return to Sunday’s game. It is not entirely clear whether he is healthy enough to dress. The Eagles have until 4:00 PM Eastern Saturday to put Jackson back in the squad in time to play against Dallas.

DALLAS COWBOYS INJURY REPORT (FRIDAY)

No real surprises for the Cowboys.

Initial linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, safety Xavier Woods and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods are out.

Ezekiel Elliott is expected to play, despite being considered questionable. The Eagles hope the Cowboys’ waste will touch Zeke instead of making the most efficient Tony Pollard their lead back. Blake Bell is expected to play the second tight end player, despite missing training all week due to illness.

It is important to remember that the Cowboys injured reserve list includes key players such as Tyron Smith (left hand), Zack Martin (right guard) and La’el Collins (right hand). Eagles really need their defensive line to eat in this confrontation.

It is probably worth noting here that the Washington Football Team found Alex Smith questionable and Terry McLaurin doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Eagles need to beat Dallas AND see Washington lose this week to prepare for a possible NFC East league game in Week 17.
