Everyone knows the photo: a young man Dwayne The Rock Johnson, looking torn and sporting a pencil-thin mustache. Certainly a picture of the fighter who became an actor in his early days in WWE, right? Wrong, he’s a 15-year-old Johnson, looking like a grown-up adult who must have terrified fellow teenagers at his school. The actor even joked that his fellow students thought he was a policeman in disguise. It’s an absurd idea – it can be absurd enough for a TV show.
And that is. Johnson’s childhood was turned into an NBC comedy called Young Rock, a comedy executive produced by Fresh off the boat creators Nanatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang, which aims to tell the origin story of the actor. see the Young Rock trailer below.

Khan and Chiang have some experience in turning a true story of a famous celebrity into a big TV comedy, turning chef Eddie Huang’s childhood into a popular series Fresh off the boat. And now they’re working their magic on Dwayne Johnson’s childhood, although they don’t have to do much considering how big the actor is – literally.
At 6’4 and 225 pounds when he was 15, Johnson bullied students at each of the four schools he attended in his family’s frequent moves from Honolulu, to Nashville, to Pennsylvania. But even a giant teenager has his own insecurities, as we see in the Young Rock trailer, which shows 15-year-old Dwayne introducing himself to colleagues as “Tomas” because “it looks way cooler than Dwayne. ”The sitcom will follow Johnson’s life from preteen years to young adulthood, through three actors: Adrian Groulx as 10-year-old Johnson, Bradley Constant as 15-year-old Johnson and Uli Latukefu as 18-20-year-old Johnson years.
“We are going to find Young Rock, for example, wreaking havoc on the streets of Hawaii when I was a very young teenager, being arrested apparently every week, doing many things I shouldn’t be doing,” Johnson said at the Television Critics Association presentation of last year, where NBC announced the comedy series. “Still a good boy. So, of course, we were evicted from the island and forced to leave the island and move everywhere in Nashville, TN, where again I continued to have problems. Then we entered my high school years and then Young Rock as a football star at the University of Miami, if you will, until I was defeated from my position by a guy named Warren Sapp who just became one of the greatest defensive tackles of all time. “
Young Rock debuts on NBC in February 16, 2021.
