Free-agent quarterback Dwayne Haskins needs a new team. He also needs a new agent.

Athletes First Haskins and David Mulugheta have mutually agreed to separate, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

The term “mutual agreement” is generally used as a targeted PR device. This type of separation is rarely, if ever, truly mutual. Perhaps Haskins thinks he received bad advice. Perhaps Mulugheta thinks Haskins ignored good advice. Regardless, the chances that both sides coincidentally, mutually and simultaneously decide to split up seem overkill.

Mulugheta and Athletes First will be entitled to fees on the remainder of Haskins’ guaranteed contract with Washington. Thus, the agency has a clear interest in helping the player fight any effort to retain more than $ 4.2 million in unpaid wages, if Washington decides to try not to pay Haskins in 2021 or 2022, the final two years of its newbie contract.

Still 23, Haskins has time to change his football career. He will need to make a good decision on where to continue his career. He will need a good agent to guide him through the process of choosing a new team and possibly to sell a team that is reluctant to give Haskins a second chance.
