DVIDS – News – Retired from the South Carolina National Guard, residing in Camden, sworn in at the Alisted Hall of Fame

Retired Command Sergeant Major Preston Gee Jr., residing in Camden, South Carolina, was admitted to the South Carolina National Guard Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina, on 5 March 2020.

The Enlisted Hall of Fame is an honor for South Carolina National Guard noncommissioned officers who went the extra mile in carrying out their duties. Criteria for inducing the South Carolina National Guard Enlisted Hall of Fame include being an enlisted, retired, or deceased member of the South Carolina National Guard service, whose accomplishments, contributions, or sacrifices contributed to the Carolina National Guard from the South or to the United States of America. Recipients receive a plaque, which hangs at the 218th Regional Training Institute at the McCrady Training Center, where service members are trained to develop their leadership skills. The South Carolina National Guard holds a ceremony each year to recognize the newest individuals being introduced to the Enlisted Hall of Fame.

Gee served in the army for more than 41 years, beginning his career in the US Army Reserve in 1975. Eight years later, he began his career with the South Carolina National Guard at the 133rd Military Police Company. In 2003, he was sent to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the first sergeant in the 133rd Military Police Company. His career included serving as Sergeant Major of the 59th Troop Command, deploying to Afghanistan while serving as senior maintenance supervisor for the 228th Tactical Theater Signal Brigade, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, and completing his career as a Service Member South Carolina National Guard and Sergeant Major of Family Care. In that role, he focused on ensuring that all military personnel and their families had access to support and assistance to solve their problems. Gee had a tremendous impact on the lives of soldiers and their families.

Gee’s significant awards and honors include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with a set of bronze oak leaves, Meritorious Service Medal with a set of bronze oak leaves, Army Commendation Medal with a set of silver oak leaves and two sets of bronze oak leaves, Army Medal of Conquest with three bunches of bronze oak leaves and the Combat Action Badge
