And so, we’re back to Augusta National.
The Masters is one of the biggest gambling events of the year. Gamblers from around the world will be in action on sports betting, on the DFS platforms, in the pools at their local bars or on all of the above. This is the tournament where casuals, diehards and everyone else get together to have fun in golf. It’s a beautiful thing and it’s going to be a fun week.
Here are the betting odds for the 2021 Masters. (Spoiler alert: there are some notable differences from what we were dealing with in November.)
Favorites
Dustin Johnson may be the favorite at +950 ($ 10 bet wins $ 95), but Jordan Spieth is the story of the oddsboard after your victory at the Valero Texas Open. Spieth, who had +7000 in Augusta in November and +12500 in Waste Management just two months ago, has +1150 to win his second Masters title thanks to a winning streak, four first five submissions and five first 15 in his last six matches.
Mix that sizzling stretch of golf with the Texan’s dazzling course history – it has a win and four results in the top three in seven matches in Augusta – and you have a perfect storm for speculators. Spieth will probably be the most popular bet this year, so a second Green Jacket for the 28-year-old would be bad news for bookmakers.
Although Spieth is certainly the story this time, it was not so long ago that we were all wondering if Bryson DeChambeau (+1150) chewed Augusta and then spit it out. That did not happen, as DeChambeau withered to a T34 in November, but there is very little reason to doubt his chances this week, as he comes from a victory and a T3 in his last two games.
Justin thomas (+1250) is also a popular move after winning the PLAYERS. It seems like it is a matter of time for Thomas to win a Green Jacket, but the same thing has been said about many other guys in the past and most of them have never adapted to the viridescent blazer. Thomas improved with each start at Augusta by going T39-T22-T17-T12-4 in his five starts.
It has been almost 17 months since Rory McIlroyNorthern Irishman’s last win is still highly respected by bookmakers at +1900. McIlroy is an interesting case because it is not uncommon for stars to see their chances of deflecting when they are in a field like this. (Gee, it wasn’t that long ago that Dustin Johnson was priced at +4500 in non-majors.) And yet, bookmakers seem to be tired of letting McIlroy’s chances get too far from the top of the board.

We’re not sure how healthy it is, but Brooks Koepka is lurking in this range at +2800. Despite not playing since finishing second in the WGC-Workday Championship, Koepka has a win and a T2 in the last two events he has managed to play. It will be interesting to see how the market will react to Koepka with that number, as there will be two speculation camps this week: those who think that Brooks is hurt and will not approach him regardless of the number, and those who seek to leave him with greater probabilities than than normal, thanks to the injury that scared people.
We will close the top of the board with another ex-winner, Patrick Reed at +3500. Reed is a unique player for a number of reasons, but for gamblers he stands out because, perhaps more than any other golfer, the 30-year-old is dangerous every time he steps on a golf course, regardless of his shape or adjustment of the field. Reed is a winner 9 times on the TOUR, has a Green Jacket and finished in the top 10 in all major tournaments. But since Reed is never very popular with casual punters, bookmakers can afford to let him go 30/1.
Although Reed is likely to fly under the radar, the same cannot be said about Collin Morikawa at +3150. A great champion, Morikawa is just over a month away from winning WGC-Workday. At some point it will find its way in the +1000 range and remain there. Can you say the same about Viktor Hovland, which should have a lot of support at +3500.
The Mid-Tier
This is the part of the betting board where you need to show some self-control (or at least I do) because such a deep field will always put some tempting numbers in some fantastic players. It’s hard to look back Adam Scott at +7500 or Tyrrell Hatton at +5000, but you can’t bet at all.
Cam Smith (+3500), Abraham Ancer (+8000), and Sungjae Im (+4150) were tied for second after 54 holes in November, but with the way the DJ played, it’s easy to forget that there were other players on the field that Sunday. Although no Smith, Ancer or Im won anything in 2021, each one appeared here or there and at one time or another they were popular betting choices. I imagine that many people were eager to bet on Smith, as he finished in the top 5 on four trips to Augusta, but that number is very short for the Australian.

We all know that the history of the course and the experience are more important in Augusta than in most other tracks, but that may not be enough to prevent punters from buying Joaquin Niemann at +5500. The 22-year-old Chilean can sometimes get lost in the “Young Gun Shuffle” with names like Morikawa, Hovland, Im and Scottie Scheffler, but flying under the radar is never a bad thing when it comes to betting. Although not in the shape of eye-popping, Niemann only finished out of the top 30 once in 2021 (six starts) and had two runners-up at the beginning of the year.
There are many punters out there who subscribe to the guide “Death, taxes and bets Bubba Watson in the Augusta National theory ”. Bubba has two victories, a T5 and a T12 on his Augusta resume, but in fact he has had more pedestrian finishes than strong since his victory in 2014. His recent form is not good and if you mix that with his 57th place in November you you can see why the winner twice dropped to +9000.
Speaking of previous winners, Sergio Garcia he is playing excellent golf and is leaving at +6000. GolfBet’s Matt Vincenzi is on the rise over Spanish this week.
Tommy Fleetwood (+6000) is just one of those players, like Tony Finau, who always seems to have people willing to bet on him or use him in DFS, Maybe it’s because he’s a nice guy or maybe it’s because he supports Everton Football Club, I I don’t know. What I do know is that whenever Fleetwood is marked with decent chances, people will find their way to it. Merseysider finished in the top 20 in their last three games in Augusta and finished in T10 at Arnold Palmer in early March.

Longshots
It was not a good start for 2021 Matthew Wolff but the young shooter showed some signs of life at the WGC Match Play before being eliminated on the last day of the group stage. Most importantly, Wolff showed that he was healthy to compete and that makes him an intriguing player at +10000.
Don’t look now, but it seemed Gary Woodland (+12500) found something at the Valero Texas Open. Chris Murphy of GolfBet liked what he saw of the former US Open champion and I can’t blame him. I would not be surprised if that number decreases as the week goes on.
It’s important to have a good short game at Augusta National and that’s music for Kevin Naears of. Na was what was typical in 2021 with a win at the Sony Open, a T12 at the WGC-Workday Championship, a WD at THE PLAYERS and a viral moment at WGC-Match Play. Na is a player who never surprises you because you already know that trying to predict what he is going to do is a foolish mission. This makes it fun and annoying, but it is certainly worth taking a look at +17500.
If you just paid attention to #GolfGamblingTwitter, you would think that Si Woo Kim (+15000) is one of the most popular players in the world. And frankly, I think he deserves to be in that conversation. That’s because the 25-year-old Seoul, South Korea native can find his way anywhere on the leaderboard any week. It’s electric. Kim has a win, a T9 in the PLAYERS, three missed cuts and a WD in nine games in 2021. This will be Kim’s fifth trip to Augusta and he showed some game here with a T21 and a T24 to his credit.
Do not forget Dylan Frittelli here at +17500. The South African advanced to the knockout stage at the WGC-Match Play two weeks ago and finished T5 at the November Masters, so he is definitely someone to consider if you are looking for a chance to warm your soul.
Max Homa (+10000) may also be of interest to those who like to throw some darts. Homa was not impressed at the Augusta debut, but that is what happens here. The Californian basically impressed everywhere in 2021. Homa had three results in the top 10, including a victory, in his last five games.
