Durham closes deal for local to vaccinate 17,000 a week :: WRAL.com

– A mass vaccination site for COVID-19 may soon be in Durham.

Durham Public Health Director Rodney Jenkins said the state of North Carolina and Fidelity are close to reaching an agreement for a location in the county.

“We are excited about the potential to work together to expand our vaccination capacity here in Durham with the opening of our first mass vaccination site,” said Jenkins. “We are still working on details like opening hours, scheduling appointments and other logistical considerations, but it is our goal to open to the public in the first weeks of February.”

The county said on Tuesday that a massive site would be able to vaccinate up to 17,000 people a week.

The existing vaccination site in Durham, Southern High School, has vaccines available by appointment. Eligible individuals can call the appointment line at 919-560-HELP (919-560-4357) from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, or schedule an appointment or apply online on the vaccine waiting list of the county.

Mass vaccination sites have already been set up in other parts of the state, including Charlotte and Greenville.
