Dungeon Fighter Duel announced as new fighting game developed by Arc System Works

Very little is known about the new project at the moment

Arc System Works was already looking pretty busy in 2021, where they were set up to support Guilty Gear Strive, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Granblue Fantasy: Versus, but it looks like they added even more to your plate.

During the Dungeon and Fighter Universe Festival in South Korea, Neople announced a new fighting game developed by Arc System Works called Dungeon and Fighter Duel / Dungeon Fighter Duel / DNF Duel.

DNF Duel is a new spin-off title in the Dungeon Fighter Online world that aims to take the beat ’em style MMORPG up and translate the action into a more traditional 2D fighting game.

Dungeon Fighter Online was launched in 2005 and has since become one of the most popular video games in the world, accumulating over 700 million lifelong gamers and grossing over $ 15 billion in May 2020.

As for DNF Duel, the game seems to be running on an engine similar to another fighting game developed by ArcSys in Granblue Fantasy: Versus with all the anime aesthetics you expect for the company now.

Instead of using individual characters, DNF Duel appears to use fighters based on the 16 main classes and 60 advances found in the MMO with five appearing in the trailer.

The characters so far seem to be using the Advencement version of the classes with Berserker, Ranger, Grappler, Striker and Inquisitor, all shown with gameplay here.

There is little to say about the game mechanics specifically, but there seems to be some kind of special cancellation or the like where the characters can be seen flashing at various points before making a move.

Eighting, the former developers of Bloody Roar and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, will also be working to help create the game, although the scope of their involvement is not yet known.

The project is apparently being directed by Ryosuke Kodani in the director’s chair, who previously worked as a lead planner on Dragon Ball FighterZ, was the assistant director for River City Girls and worked with Arcana Heart 3 before.

It is unclear how many fighting game teams Arc System Works operates now, considering that they have three other projects in progress, but two of them only in DLC and Eighting seasons assisting here will probably help ease the burden for developers.

No platform or release date was given in the initial trailer, but the previous record for ArcSys fighting games will likely come to PlayStation 4 and PC, at a minimum.
