Duke Energy’s solar generation flourishes in Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., February 16, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Duke Energy Florida is fulfilling its commitment to provide cleaner and smarter energy solutions to benefit everyone Florida customers.

The company plans to start building an additional solar installation in the middle of the year.

  • The Sandy Creek Solar Plant will be built on 625 acres in Bay County, Florida. As the county’s first solar power plant, the facility will bring 74.9 MW of clean generation to the area and will consist of approximately 220,000 single-axis tracking solar panels. The Sandy Creek solar plant is expected to be completed in the spring of 2022.

During construction, each solar project creates about 200 to 300 temporary jobs. When in operation, the plants will generate quiet and carbon-free energy, which will bring tax benefits to the municipalities. All five solar power plants will be owned, operated and maintained by Duke Energy Florida.
