Duce Staley will be interviewed for jobs at Eagles HC

A former South Carolina football star is being interviewed for the Eagles’ HC job.

The Philadelphia Eagles fired coach Doug Pederson this week after his team recorded a 4-11 record in 2020, and ended up in the hold of a terrible eastern NFC division. The news comes just two years after Pederson led the organization in the Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots.

With Pederson out of the picture, the Eagles have gone through several rounds in the hiring process and a former South Carolina football star is emerging as a possible candidate.

Duce Staley has been a member of the Eagles’ team since 2011, serving on special teams and running backs. He is currently listed as the team’s assistant chief coach.

Staley won the Super Bowl as a player and coach in the NFL. He played professionally for 10 seasons, accumulating 5,785 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground, adding 2,587 yards and receiving 10 points. He ranks fifth on the Eagles’ all-time race list.

Staley left Philadelphia in 2004 to join Ben Roethlisberger and Jerome Bettis, where he helped the Pittsburgh Steelers take home the Super Bowl title in the 2005-’06 season.

Originally from West Columbia, Staley played two seasons for his hometown Gamecocks before being taken in the third round of the NFL’s 97 draft. He was an artist at all conferences, totaling 2,341 yards of scrimmage and 19 touchdowns.

If selected, Staley would become the 24th coach in the history of the Eagles.
