Drunk beautician started the flight for refusing to wear a mask: report

A British beautician, who was on her way to Ibiza to comfort the loved ones of a friend who died of an overdose, was expelled from her Ryanair flight when, drunk, she refused to wear a mask, according to a report.

Hayley Box, 34, a single mother of two, was arrested after boarding the plane in September without showing her passport and becoming abusive to flight attendants and police, Cavendish Press reported about a court hearing.

She later said she was so drunk that she couldn’t even remember boarding the plane at Manchester airport after leaving her children with a babysitter and spending the night at the Clayton Hotel, according to the news agency.

Box, from Shifnal, Shropshire, allegedly drank an entire bottle of wine in his room, then drank another large glass at the airport before arriving for his 6 am flight.

“The booth manager asked her to put on a mask, but the defendant did not comply,” said prosecutor Rachel Dixon on Monday.

The booth manager said the defendant was slow to respond and listen to instructions. The defendant was also asked several times about her passport, but she did not respond to those requests, ”continued Dixon.

“The cabin manager then made the decision to remove her from the plane and asked her to leave,” she said.

“She did not obey and he told her that he could leave voluntarily or with the police. She then decided to put on her seat belt and the police were contacted, ”added Dixon.

“When the police arrived, the defendant stood up and became quite aggressive. She started to cry, claiming that her friend had died and that she needed to go to Ibiza. When the police started up the steps, she left. But the defendant then tried to return to the plane, and they removed it again. “

Dixon said the woman started cursing the police and pushing her as they drove her to a police van, where she was finally overpowered.

“She said she had no recollection of the incident. She said her actions resulted from lack of sleep, eating nothing and drinking wine very quickly. It was a very long-running incident, ”said Dixon.

Box, whose company offers beauty treatments and anti-wrinkle injections, admitted to being drunk and was fined £ 120, or about $ 166.

His lawyer said the woman was “mortified and ashamed”.

“She explains that she lost a friend in Ibiza due to an overdose in August 2020 and that the reason for her going to Ibiza was to console her friends,” said Jane Shaw.

“She was very, very raw and did not expect the death of her close friend,” she said. “She slept very little and at the airport to calm herself down she drank another glass of wine stupidly.

“She doesn’t remember getting on the plane. She doesn’t remember talking to the captain, ”added Shaw.
