Drugs Mugs in Florence, South Carolina

This week at Coffee Design we present Mug Drugs, a black-owned coffee brand located in Florence, South Carolina. Mug Drugs is a small batch coffee company launched in October 2020. “Our beans are from Central America and the South, ”says Mug Drugs ‘Director of Marketing and PR, Jacque’ Scott,“ and we mix the foundations ourselves to create the flavor profiles. ”The company offers four blends and a sample pack and is currently working on a redesign of the social brand, but it is the packaging design that we want to highlight today, created by cofounder and creative director Ari Gibson-Thomas.

We spoke with Jacque ‘Scott digitally to find out more.

Hi, Jacque ‘. Tell us how Mug Drugs started!

We started in October 2020 and launched orders in November of the same year. Mug Drugs was created for the love of coffee, but also for recognizing that the industry lacked inclusive, honest and good-humored black voices, and our goal was to fill that gap.

Who is on your team?

We are a small company that works with an external roaster, but we grind and mix everything to ensure that we have the best flavors and quality. The company’s owners are Ari and Sham Gibson-Thomas.

What are your current coffee offerings? Tell us about the names of the mixes.

Each name and image combined is a reference to the culture and entertainment of black Americans. We currently offer four flavors. Our best seller being We Wuz Kangz.
