Driver unleashes shooting by trapping a Detroit officer’s car off duty against the wall on I-75, police said

DETROIT – A break Detroit Police Officer was hurt during a shootout with a truck driver who repeatedly crashed his vehicle on I-75, according to officials.

The officer was heading south on I-75 near Springwells Street in Detroit Southwest around midnight on Thursday, when she was hit by a black Ford F-150, police said.

As she tried to pull away, the truck followed and hit her vehicle, pinning it against the barrier wall of the building, officials said.

The 34-year-old man who drove the truck was known to the police, the police said. He got out of the truck and started exchanging shots with the policeman, officials said.

During the shooting, both the policeman and the 34-year-old man were shot, police said.

The officer was grazed in the body before fleeing to 7900 Olivet Street and seeking help, officials said. She was taken to a nearby hospital by medical officers and is listed as stable.

Police said the 34-year-old man was also shot. He was taken into custody and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The circumstances of the incident are still being investigated, officials said.
