Driver accused of DWI after hitting a steep embankment in the water :: WRAL.com

A woman fell over the barricade near the intersection of Pleasant Grove Church Road and Airport Boulevard, her car rolling down the steep bank and stopping in the water below.

The accident occurred on Friday morning about a kilometer from RDU airport.

According to a Morrisville Fire Rescue employee, the woman drove straight through the intersection and down the dike, which was still slippery and muddy from the rain.

When the authorities arrived, she was trying to climb the embankment, but had trouble climbing because of the mud and shoes.

Authorities said she suffered only minor injuries and should be fine. However, she was accused of a DWI, driving recklessly and driving with a suspended license.

At around 5 am, the driver’s car headlights could still be seen on the dark landfill. In half an hour, the teams recovered the car from the stream.
