Maybe Drew Brees isn’t really ready to hang up those boots – at least that’s what he looks like after a viral training video from the New Orleans Saints quarterback leaked over the weekend. Brees, who is expected to announce his plans for his future in the NFL in the coming weeks, had a training video posted by trainer Todd Durkin that raises the question of whether the future Hall of Fame quarterback will actually retire in 2021.

Based on the amount of weight Brees is pushing, the speed with which he moves the weights and the distance he pushes them – he doesn’t look like a quarterback who is thinking about not playing football again, even at 42.

Brees and Santos are reportedly agreed to renegotiate their contract, which will reduce their wage cap collection by nearly $ 24 million. While Brees takes his time to retire, the Saints can keep their salary cap at $ 12.225 million. If Brees decides to retire, the Saints can split the dead money over two years as a post-June 1 retirement (for Over The Cap).

If Brees decides to return to the 2021 season, the Saints will have some problems that they will have to resolve, although coach Sean Payton will certainly be happy to have his quarterback back. The Saints will have to find a way to clear the projected $ 69 million above the salary cap before the new league year and make a decision about the immediate future of Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. Hill has a $ 16.159 million limit for 2021, which will need to be renegotiated if the Saints want to keep him on the list. Winston will be an unrestricted free agent, questioning his future with the team if Brees returns.

The Saints will need Brees to make a decision about his future soon, but it looks like Tom Brady winning a Super Bowl at age 43 may have given Brees enough motivation to give another Super Bowl victory a chance, himself.
