Drew Brees not only suffered 11 rib fractures and a punctured lung in what was probably his last NFL season.
The future quarterback of the Hall of Fame and Saints also played with a torn rotator cuff (although it’s unclear if it was on his right shoulder) and torn fascia (connective tissue) on his foot, his wife Brittany revealed in an Instagram post on Wednesday -market.
“It makes me think that I shouldn’t have had an epidural during childbirth,” Brittany wrote.
Brees lost four games to injury. He launched 24 touchdown passes and was intercepted six times.
The Saints were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday by Tom Brady’s Buccaneers and, although there was no official announcement, several reports say that Brees, 42, the all-time leader of the league with 80,358 yards, will retire and join to the NBC football booth.
“After crying for a few days … I am very grateful for this year,” wrote Brittany. “Your 20th in the NFL, my love. This was the most difficult year of our lives, but in some ways one of the best. “
Brittany may have alluded to her husband who would face a negative reaction in June for saying that “I will never agree with anyone disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country” when asked about players kneeling during the national anthem in protest against the police brutality and racial injustice.
Brees’s comments came as protests engulfed the country after George Floyd’s death and sparked outrage among professional athletes, including several of his teammates.
Brees, who in 2016 criticized Colin Kaepernick for kneeling during the national anthem, later apologized.
At the time, Brittany wrote on Instagram, in capital letters: “We are the problem”.
