Stable performance in a soda-themed challenge caused another competitor to be eliminated on Friday Drag Race, leaving us with only a pack of six queens.
After an exciting – sorry, make it a stimulating – game of Are you smarter than the pit crew?, which challenged the queens’ knowledge about Drag Race institutions like Lil ‘Poundcake and Interior Illusions Lounge, the group was given the ultimate challenge this week: creating and branding a soft drink, designing the can, producing and starring in a commercial, and writing a catchy jingle. You know, totally normal things that all drag queens do in their daily lives.
In a surprising turn of events, some of the night’s worst commercials came from some of the season’s supposed leaders. Let’s start with Tina Burner, whose “Viagra canned” called Burnin ‘Up (she will listening to the Jonas Brothers’ lawyers, by the way!) was a surprise flop, especially considering how consistently she has performed so far. Watching her struggle to get the line on Victoria’s Secret, I couldn’t help but remember Kahmora Hall’s iconic performance as a tree. (“I was ROOTING … for US!”)
Other mistakes included Gottmik’s confused sex juice commercial, which even she admitted didn’t make sense; Utica Queen’s uncomfortable breastfeeding, a tribute to her childhood cow Clara, the same one mentioned by that medium last week; and Olivia Lux’s overall directionless performance. Carson Kressley and Ross Mathews did not need tell she looked confused – she took care of that herself.
That said, sometimes the best players are exactly the ones you expect, like Symone and Rosé, who ended up sharing this week’s victory. Both followed the direction very well during the filming of their commercials, maintaining a natural mood all the time. Symone looking at the camera and asking “Is your blood sugar low?” it was a moment in itself.
In fact, Symone probably could have been the only winner of this week’s challenge, had it not been for Rosé’s devilishly impressive look on the “Beast Couture” catwalk (photo here). Seriously, The CW should call her to inquire about HIM’s makeup for the live-action Super powerful girls Show. Symone’s sexy look was a hysterical stroke of sparkle, especially in her style, but it just didn’t have the same dazzling factor as Rosé’s.
Check out the rest of this week’s catwalk – including Utica’s Maleficent tribute, Kandy Muse’s lazy alien outfit and Tina looking like a gay version of Barf’s Space Balls – below:

Given the quality of her commercial and her warm welcome on the catwalk, Utica had her udder for the two worst of the week. But it was a little surprising to see Tina synchronizing her lips with her, especially when some queens (* cough * Kandy * cough *) seemed to have made much less effort. Still, if there was ever a perfect battle to swing a giant dog suit, it was this one, defined as “My Humps” by the Black Eyed Peas. Tina’s utter ridicule in that huge suit made Ru hysterical, while Utica was trapped making a very serious interpretation in her tight dress.
So imagine the collective shock of the viewers when Ru announced From the tub elimination!
