‘Drag Race’ recap: 13th season, episode 13 – Top 4 revealed

Destined for more, Top 4! Friday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race dethroned another hopeful queen, paving the way for a sickening end of season … in a few weeks.

Friday’s maxi challenge launched the remaining five contestants – Gottmik, Kandy Muse, Olivia Lux, Rosé and Symone – in the instant sci-fi classic Henny, I shrunk the Drag Queens! And who better to prepare them for the close up than Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johansson? Certainly not Colin Jost, who interrupted his wife’s virtual incentive conversation to ask if the film was called … Queens of size. (Save the comedy for the weekend update, buddy.)

The maximum HennyThe cast really did fit in naturally – Rosé as Brandy, the “sarcastic” queen, Gottmik as Chardonnay, the “crybaby” and Olivia as Ginger Ale, the “dumb” – but there was a little friction when it came time for Kandy and Symone claim their roles. Both had their hearts turned to Dominique, the “bad guy”, and neither was willing to back down.

After an extremely frustrating back and forth exchange, Symone ended up accepting the role of Margarita, the “smart” one, but she didn’t like it. This worried me, because [1] I just want the best for Symone, and [2] we have seen countless queens acting challenges, basically throwing in the towel after failing to get their favorite role. A tearful Symone even admitted (via confession) that the pressure and expectations of the competition are really starting to affect her. (Seriously, it’s 2021. Why don’t smart TVs come with the “send a hug” feature?!)

In the end, however, Symone’s tears were in vain. The judges liked his performance very much, while feeling that Kandy was overconfident in his same old trick and did not bring enough enthusiasm to the role. They really felt that Olivia, who also underperformed, could have benefited from playing Dominique, as this would give her a chance to expand her reach. And it wasn’t just Kandy acting that there was a negative criticism from the judges; they also destroyed his “sloppy” and ill-adjusted catwalk look. Michelle Visage even gave her the dreaded phrase “You are better than that”.

“I am very disappointed,” said Kandy, with tears in her eyes. “And I agree about the outfit. When I put it on, I don’t feel pretty with it. Do you know when you wear something and feel good about it? I didn’t feel it. And I am disappointed. We are so close to the end, and this is something I have wanted for so long. But the fight is not over and maybe next time I will play a dumb bitch. “

Some of these looks looked great, but Gottmik received my personal seal of approval – even if it was necessary Hercules flasher reference. (Click here if you need an update.)

But before sending the queens to vent backstage, Ru asked everyone’s favorite question: “Who should go home tonight and why?” Everyone chose Olivia without hesitation, except for Mrs. Lux, who finally chose Kandy after what seemed like an entire hour of silence.

And the decision of the judges could not have been less surprising. Rosé won her third victory of the season (they They loved her mod look on the catwalk), while Gottmik and Symone (whew!) slipped to safety, leaving Kandy and Olivia to face the song – this song being Cher’s “Strong Enough”.

Real conversation, however … Considering how much was at stake for the two queens, not to mention the inherent potential of this iconic jelly, I was a little impressed by the lip sync. Kandy managed to get some laughs from the judges, but there were no exciting moments at either end. If the pool wasn’t already so small, I would have sent you both. Then again, I am not Ru. And my opinion is literally irrelevant.

Then came the final decision: Kandy was sent to safety, while Olivia Lux was instructed to flee. “You should be very proud of yourself.” Ru said. “I know who I am.”

“A friendly reminder for Liv life to the fullest, ”said Olivia on her way off the track.
