It was time for the story with House minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) On Friday, when he released a five-minute video reading a book by Dr. Seuss.
But the reading, below, left many people on Twitter confused as to how far the most senior Republican in the House was really trying to get.
Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ decision to remove six books containing outdated and racist images infuriated Republican lawmakers and Fox News personalities this week, with many falsely blaming the private company’s decision to stop publishing about Democrats and President Joe Biden.
With his video, McCarthy appeared to join the criticism. But critics pointed out that he read “Green Eggs and Ham” – which is not one of the books that were taken out.
CNN’s Don Lemon couldn’t believe the feat of former President Donald Trump’s main ally, who voted to overturn the 2020 election result.
“While Americans are desperate to get vaccinated and desperate for relief from COVID. Here’s what Kevin McCarthy is doing now, ”said the“ CNN Tonight ”anchor on Friday night.
“It really happened. These are your Republican leaders, ”he added, criticizing McCarthy for having nothing better to do than“ feed this false outrage ”.
“It has nothing to do with Democrats, nothing at all,” Lemon continued. “And that one in particular by Dr. Seuss, is still in distribution, so none of that makes sense. They are playing with you. Are you going to fall for that? “
