Dr. Sergienko explains reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine

Sonora, CA – The Mariposa County Health Officer, who also serves as an interim officer in Tuolumne County, received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

He tells through the public health department of Mariposa County that, after the first dose, he had an expected picture of pain in the arm near the injection site. That was to be expected, and he said, “It wasn’t too bad.”

The day after his second injection, received on Friday, he felt “a little bit of pain” and a slight headache. It was not enough to disrupt his workday. The next morning, he was “a little more sore” but said “nothing too disturbing”.

As the immune response increases after receiving the vaccine, the health department reports that common side effects can include things like pain, tiredness and fever. For more information, according to the CDC, click here.

State, federal and local public health officials strongly encourage the use of the vaccine to receive a high level of immunity and is considered part of the effort to help end the pandemic.
