JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – Some experts are comparing the emergence of new variants of the COVID-19 to a persistent Category 5 hurricane near the coast. Are people fully vaccinated against the virus safe?
Dr. Oz, who recently spoke with CNN’s chief medical expert, Dr. Sanja Gupta for the Oz program that airs on Monday, joined the The Morning Show to share that he’s not as concerned with the variants as some experts.
“Although we have variants of COVID in the UK, Brazil and South Africa, this raises concern in Florida, in fact – there are some cases in the UK – the vaccine seems to work against them,” said Oz. “I’m not as panicked as some seem.”
What Oz discussed with Gupta, about a third of people with COVID appear to have persistent neurological effects.
“A big part of the COVID story that hasn’t been discussed is that if you’re healthy when you take COVID, you do a lot better,” said Oz. “Anything you can do – reduce sugar, moisturize – that 20% of the blood goes to the brain – omega-3 fats – all of which are extremely beneficial for protecting the brain. So if you get COVID, you’ll be able to handle it more effectively, we believe. “

The CDC recently released new guidelines saying that fully vaccinated people who meet certain criteria will no longer be required to be quarantined after exposure to someone with COVID-19.
The CDC recently released new guidelines saying that fully vaccinated – at least two weeks after the second injection – will no longer be required to quarantine after exposure to someone with COVID-19.
“If it is three months after vaccination, you are almost certainly protected. I bet it’s a year, but we only have three months of data, ”said Oz. “I am really encouraged that the CDC said that. In addition to reducing the chance of serious illness by almost 100% … we have new data now that people are less infected, so they will pass less – so you can do things that other people cannot do. “
Oz said we are seeing an encouraging downward trajectory of new cases and diseases. He believes that if we spend the next two months – between the hottest climate and 100 million people vaccinated – the CDC can relax its safety protocols.
