Dozens of cars on fire as a huge fire hits Detroit’s junkyard

DETROIT – Dozens of burning cars are sending clouds of smoke into the air as a huge fire hits a junkyard in Detroit West Side.

The fire is at Big Sam’s Auto Parks, a rescue depot on the corner of Lyndon Street and Meyers Road.

Detroit Firefighters declared a “hazardous material level 1” situation due to hazardous materials inside these vehicles, officials said.

The sound of burning airbags bursting can be heard around the junkyard. The Hazmat level 1 situation has been declared due to the possible dangerous chemical situation.

Trains were prevented from passing on the railroad tracks because fire is spreading near those tracks, officials said.
