Doug Pederson’s future as chief eagle trainer: report

Doug Pederson may not be the Philadelphia Eagles coach for much longer.

Pederson’s future as the team’s head coach “is not firm” and he can be dismissed if the team’s owner, Jeffrey Lurie, is not confident about the coach’s vision for the future. ESPN reported Sunday.

Recent speculation about Pederson’s future comes a week after the team was accused of defeating the Washington Football Team in a game that had playoff implications.

Washington won and was able to secure the NFC East title, but if it lost the New York Giants it would have won the division title.

Pederson made the heavily criticized decision to put quarterback Jalen Hurts in place of Nate Sudfeld in the Eagles’ last four plays. Carson Wentz was inactive.

There are rumors that Pederson’s relationship with Wentz is “fractured”, but he backed down last week.

“The relationship is good, it is good and it is something that we will continue to build,” he said.

Pederson helped Philadelphia win its only Super Bowl title. The Eagles signed a contract extension with Pederson until the 2022 season just two years ago.
