Doug Pederson ‘totally confident’ that he will coach the Eagles in 2021

Despite the Eagles ‘miserable 2020 season, Doug Pederson said Monday morning that he hopes to be the Eagles’ coach in 2021.

At the end of his weekly interview with the WIP Morning Show on Monday, Pederson was asked if he feels his job is in danger.

“Listen, I don’t want to,” said Pederson. “I feel totally confident about being the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. What I am most proud of on this football team is that we have been in postseason three of the last five years since I started here. And this is very good. We won a championship here.

“We have been through a season in which many of our veterans are not playing due to injuries. We are playing with many young players. Yes, there will always be a lot of evaluation in the off-season. Obviously, my work is also evaluated. But I hope to be the coach next season and I appreciate this opportunity to get things right and fix and take this team to the next season. “

It is not clear whether Pederson received guarantees of ownership of his work in 2021 or whether this is just his feeling based on his relationships in the building. It is important to note that just because Pederson says he is safe, it does not necessarily mean that he is.

Sure, the Eagles have dealt with injuries this season, but that doesn’t completely excuse the double-digit losing streak. And while it’s great that they won a Super Bowl to end the 2017 season, they’re 22-24-1 since then.

The Eagles dropped to 4-10-1 with a 37-17 loss to rival Cowboys on Sunday afternoon and have now lost six of their last seven games since the farewell week. If the season ended today, they would have the sixth choice of the draft.

Owner Jeffrey Lurie will have some tough decisions to make this off season. He will have to decide the future of Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman, who is responsible for assembling this squad that has four wins in 2020.

On Sunday night, Pederson mentioned some disappointment with himself for the fights this season and was later asked about that disappointment.

“I mean, you know, you look at decisions. You see opportunities to put the team in better situations; all the things I’ll evaluate when I look back on the year, ”said Pederson.

“I am also part of the solution to move forward, and I have to look at myself and as the leader of the football team and stand in front of the guys and they are obviously disappointed. We are all disappointed. I can do my part to try to help them and put them in situations to be better. That’s where I’m hard on myself. “
