Immediately after Doug Pederson’s Philadelphia Eagles resignation, a big question was whether the Super Bowl winning coach would get another job in this hiring cycle.
So far, the former Eagles coach has not sparked much interest.
Pederson told Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer in a text that he is “inclined to take a vacation next year and prepare for [the] next season. “
The only head coach vacancies yet to be filled are in Houston and Philadelphia, so Pederson does not appear to be in line for an important position (he has not been interviewed for any of the previous positions).
The Seattle Seahawks talked to Pederson about his offensive coordinator work, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported over the weekend.
Given Pederson’s most recent text for Bowen, we could analyze that the former coach is not planning to get that job.
Pederson’s race in Philadelphia ended in turmoil, mainly because of his handling of Carson Wentz, perceived feelings about QB and disagreements with the administration. When a Super Bowl victory and reaching the playoff three times in five seasons cannot overcome the problems, his apparent problems were profound.
After being sidelined for a season, Pederson’s resume should make him a candidate for a coaching position in 2022. Owners love candidates with a winning record, and Pederson’s Super Bowl win will go a long way in masking problems that ended their run in Philadelphia.
