Doubleheader in South Carolina at Lake View, Cherokee

This weekend, the stars and cars of the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series are headed for the only double weekend on the lineup, as the tour makes its debut at the Lake View Motor Speedway on Saturday, February 20, before its second season visit to the Cherokee Speedway for the Frostbite 40 on Sunday, February 21st.

With the long run of Late Model races in January and February in Florida now complete, the stars of the Southeastern Super Late Model now turn their attention to the final three events of the 2020-21 Xtreme Series campaign. Several names come from victories and great finishes in the State of the Sun and will try to maintain momentum as the Series enters the end of its schedule.

If you can’t get to the track, you can watch all the action live on DIRTVision.

Here are the main stories to follow this weekend:

AN EXTREME DEBUT – Stewart Friesen, from the Super DIRTcar series turned into NASCAR Truck Series, will make his debut with the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series this weekend behind the wheel of his Halmar International Longhorn Chassis # 44. Friesen made his Dirt Late Model debut on All-Tech Raceway on January 23 and was among the top 10 at its most recent start at Bubba Raceway Park on February 2.

Since then, Friesen has had a very successful launch with the Super DIRTcar Series on 50th DIRTcar Nationals in Volusia last week, winning his two big blocks starts on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

RESCUE TIME – Chris Madden has been finishing very recently in the Xtreme competition, achieving a victory and a podium since the difficult end of his last visit to Cherokee in November for the Blue Gray 100 opening season. The current points leader led the last part of the race until lap 92, when he blew a tire, leaving him in 12th place. But Sunday’s Frostbite 40 has only 40 laps, which may be the distance the current Champion of the Series needs to show the DIRTVision audience how to do that on his track.

Madden most recently achieved two results in the top 10 with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings delayed model series last week 50th DIRTcar Nationals in Volusia, also leading many laps in Thursday’s article.

RIDING THE WAVE – Kyle Strickler had a very remarkable month. The current runner-up in the Series scored his first career victory at the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series at Volusia Speedway Park’s Sunshine Nationals in January, he moved back to the Longhorn Chassis with his PCC Motorsports team, won again with the Outlaws last Wednesday night at Volusia’s 50th DIRTcar Nationals and signed up to go full-time with the tour as the current points leader.

Strickler’s last performance at the Xtreme Series in Cherokee in November was a success, placing third behind Benji Hicks and winner Brandon Overton after 100 laps. He’s just 17 points behind Madden in the Series standings, and with the two drivers looking to compete in all six races, this battle certainly has the potential to come straight to the edge.

BRINGING SEXY BACK – A start, a victory. After running a few races to assemble his new cars for the 2021 season, Brandon Overton is due to return to the Xtreme tour this weekend, after a very successful stretch in Florida, which included two wins and five podiums. Overton also won the opening of the Xtreme tour Blue Gray 100 at the Cherokee in November.

YOUNG GUN SHOTS – Daulton Wilson of Fayetteville, NC, had a stellar qualifying performance in the second race of the season at Volunteer Speedway, breaking the track record before finishing sixth in the Feature. A week later, he got the best 4th place in his career at Lavonia, showing his true talent in the red clay from the southeast.

Wilson has not yet finished out of the top 10, finishing 8th in the Cherokee at the Blue Gray 100 in November.
