Donald Trump provoked a possible candidacy of his daughter-in-law Lara Trump for a seat in the North Carolina Senate in 2022.
The former president raised the possibility of Lara during some impromptu comments in Mar-a-Lago, while talking about a fundraiser for the rescue of Big Dog Ranch on Friday. Lara Trump has long been an animal rights activist.
“I didn’t exactly prepare for this, but I was passing by and I heard everyone screaming,” said Trump from the pulpits under furious applause. “I want to thank Lara, who’s been so amazing – and I don’t know, are you running for the Senate? I heard she’s going to run for the Senate! “

North Carolina senator Richard Burr will retire in 2022. Lara, 38, a native of Tar Heel, has not officially declared herself a candidate for the post, but is not afraid to fuel speculation.
“I couldn’t think of anything more than representing the people of my home state, representing North Carolina,” she said during a podcast interview in December.
Burr was one of seven Republican senators to vote in favor of Trump’s impeachment on charges of inciting a January 6 uprising in the capital, which left at least five dead. A Lara Trump run would be an initial test of the former president’s staying power with Republican and state voters.
“If Lara wanted to enter the race, I think she would get immediate and widespread attention across the state,” Michael Whatley, president of the Republican Party of North Carolina, told the Associated Press earlier this month.
South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham also said that Lara Trump would be a chance for the nomination, if she wanted to.
