Former reality show president / president Donald Trump resigned from SAG-AFTRA on Thursday before a vote on expelling him from the actors union for his role in the U.S. Capitol insurrection.
In January, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists announced that it would hold a hearing on the possibility of banning Trump from SAG-AFTRA, which includes journalists who were stationed on the Capitol and placed in danger thanks to Trump’s misinformation that took him to the January 6 riot.
Before the guild could vote, however, Trump said he would resign from the union in a letter written to the president of SAG-AFTRA and Beverly Hills 90210 actress Gabrielle Carteris, who said in a statement last month: “Donald Trump attacked the values that this union considers most sacred – democracy, truth, respect for our countrymen of all races and creeds, and the sanctity of the free press.”
In his letter Thursday (via Variety), Trump wrote: “I write to you today about the so-called Disciplinary Committee hearing with the aim of revoking my union membership. Who cares!”
“Although I am not familiar with your work, I am very proud of my work in films like Home Alone 2, Zoolander and Wall Street: money never sleeps; and television programs, including The new prince of Bel-Air, Saturday Night Liveand, of course, one of the most successful programs in the history of television, The Apprentice – to name just a few! “he added

Trump also boasted: “I also helped the cable news business a lot (considered a dying platform, with little time left until I got involved in politics) and created thousands of jobs on networks like MSDNC and Fake News CNN , among many others. “
After criticizing Carteris’ mandate as president of SAG-AFTRA, Trump said: “I no longer wish to be associated with your union.”
In response to Trump’s letter of resignation, the union replied simply, “Thank you.”
