The duo ‘Atlanta’ and ‘Fleabag’ will create and star in the series, based on the 2005 film of the same name.
How about this for a collaboration: Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are teaming up for an Amazon series, Mr and Mrs Smith. THE Atlanta star sparked the series, arriving on Amazon in 2022, in its Instagram story Friday.
The project, a reboot of the 2005 film New Regency, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has been quietly in progress for months and stems from the Flea bag general agreement between the creator and Amazon.
Waller-Bridge and Glover will create and star in the series. Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo) – who also has a general agreement with Amazon – is also a co-creator and will act as a showrunner. Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer of New Regency will also serve as executive producers, as well as Jenny Robins of Wells Street Films.
Updated Mr. and Mrs. Smith marks a team of Emmy Glover and Waller-Bridge winners, who have a history of creating and starring in their own material. Glover, whose sources say he quietly renewed his overall deal with FX Productions last year after attracting interest from Amazon and other vehicles, continues to have Atlanta in the works at FX. The series marks the follow-up to Waller-Bridge at Amazon’s Emmy Awards Flea bag.
The original Mr and Mrs Smith raised $ 487 million worldwide when it was launched in 2005. The key to doing the reboots is to have the original producers involved, which is the case here with New Regency.
