Dominion Energy leader dies day after leaving office

RICHMOND, Virginia (WWBT) – Former Dominion Energy Chairman, President and CEO Thomas F. Farrell, II, died a day after leaving his leadership position at the company.

Dominion Energy said Farrell, 66, has been battling cancer and has changed in recent weeks.

Farrell served as chairman, chairman and executive director from 2007 to 2020.

“Tom was an unparalleled mentor and exceptional leader who sought to find innovative solutions to the challenges of Dominion Energy, in the utility industry and in the community he called home,” said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Blue. “In his tenure at the company, Tom oversaw an era of prosperity and growth and a long-term transformation that will have a lasting impact on the development of clean energy and the health of the environment. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, children and wives and grandchildren. We will miss him very much and extend our deepest condolences to his loving family ”.

Farrell became president and chief operating officer of Dominion in 2004, and president and chief executive officer in 2006, and was elected president in 2007 – a position he held until April 1.

“During his time as CEO, he focused on growing the company’s portfolio of regulated assets, building clean energy facilities, reducing pollutant emissions with a commitment to zero net emissions, improving safety in the workplace, promoting diversity suppliers and workplaces, hiring veterans, strengthening their philanthropy, community presence and more.
