Five-star cornerback Domani Jackson announced his commitment to the USC on Saturday, choosing the Trojans over Arizona State, Clemson, Michigan and Ohio State.
Jackson is the fifth customer in the 2022 class and the first customer in California. He is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, and gives USC the No. 1 contender in the state for two consecutive recruitment cycles.
This may seem trivial, but coach Clay Helton and his team ended the 2020 cycle with the 54th place recruiting class and just a commitment to the ESPN 300 at wide receiver Gary Bryant. California prospects were fleeing the state, including Bryce Young, the No. 1 double threat quarterback in the ranking in 2020, who moved from the USC to Alabama.
The Trojans’ team, who hired secondary coach Donte Williams in February 2020, made a joint effort to retake the west and keep local prospects at home.
Those efforts paid off in the 2021 cycle, when the USC hired nine ESPN 300 recruits, including the potential number 1 in the state and the extreme defensive five-star Korey Foreman.
Trojans still have a chance to get ESPN 300 linebacker Raesjon Davis. If Davis chooses USC, it will give the school three appointments among California’s top four candidates.
Jackson’s pledge gives USC three commitments to the ESPN Junior 300 in 2022, along with linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka (No. 76 overall) and cornerback Fabian Ross (No. 190).
